Beloved food store to open second location at Houston Farmers Market
Restaurants doubling as markets may sound like a direct result of the COVID-19 era, but gems like Henderson & Kane in the historic Sixth Ward of Houston have been thriving long before 2020. And this 2-in-1 concept has big plans for the future: The owners are opening an outpost inside the Houston Farmers Market on Airline Drive early next year.
Under the direction of John and Veronica Avila since 2018, the part-general store and part-barbecue restaurant is housed in a structure built in 1937, and named after the intersecting streets it’s located on. Like the original, the new location will boast a variety of goods and groceries from local purveyors, plus a full barbecue menu. “The new location will have the same components, only on a larger scale,” said Veronica.
